MV Low Voltage Power Adapter (LVPA) Installation Guide

Overview

The Cisco Meraki Low Voltage Power Adapter (LVPA) converts a low voltage (12/24V) power supply into Power over Ethernet (PoE), allowing users to upgrade from analog to IP cameras easily. Twin power cables from an analog camera can be connected to the dual polarity terminal block in any order. Existing coaxial cable can be left in the wall, as it will no longer be used.

In addition to the low voltage 12VDC/24VAC input PoE injector, the following are provided:

  • Phillips head wall mounting screws
  • Wall screw anchors for masonry (brick, concrete)
  • Torx key and security screw
  • Zip tie

Pre-install preparation

Complete the following steps before going on-site to perform an installation.

Configure your MV wireless settings

Video data transmits wirelessly from the camera to a local computer or through the Meraki cloud for remote viewing.

Prior to deploying your MA-PWR-MV-LV, pre-stage your Cisco Meraki MV smart camera so that it is running the latest firmware and has its wireless settings properly configured.

Installation instructions

Each MA-PWR-MV-LV comes with an instruction pamphlet within the box. The pamphlet contains detailed step-by-step guides and images to assist in the physical installation of the power injector. Access a downloadable PDF pamphlet here.

To install the MA-PWR-MV-LV:

  1. Remove the back plate from the power injector using a lever action. Plug in the input 2-wire 12VDC/24VAC. Secure the 2-wire power cables by screwing them into their terminals with a flathead screwdriver. The terminal blocks are dual polarity.

    Do not plug the MA-PWR-MV-LV into 110V/220V mains. The power injector accepts input power of 24VAC at 2.2 amps or 12VDC at 2.75 amps.

  2. Verify that the power injector is receiving power by confirming the LED indicator is white.

  3. Plug in the Ethernet cable for the MV smart camera.

  4. Mount the back plate to the surface:
    • Flat surface: Screw the back plate directly to the wall using the provided wall mounting screws.
    • Pole deployment: Secure the back plate to the pole using the provided zip tie.

  5. Attach the power injector to the back plate by applying slight pressure so that it clips into place. Secure the injector to the back plate using the provided Torx key and security screw.

  6. Plug the camera into the Ethernet cable and verify it is receiving power by checking the LED indicator.

Cabling considerations

Keep cable distance in mind when deploying the MA-PWR-MV-LV:

  • In typical deployments, 18 AWG/1.02mm diameter 2-wire power cables are common. Higher gauge conductor size results in much shorter cable runs.
  • 24VAC runs provide greater cable distance than 12VDC runs.
  • MV smart camera power draw averages between 7W to 24W, or even greater dependent on the model used.
