Workflow lock states

Every workflow has a lock state that controls whether the workflow can be edited and how widely it is shared. The following table describes each state.

A workflow becomes production ready only after a user locks it and selects Production Ready. The option stays disabled until the workflow meets every requirement.

Requirements for production ready

A workflow must satisfy all of the following requirements before it can be marked production ready. The lock dialog lists each requirement and shows which ones still need attention.

What changes when a workflow is production ready

Marking a workflow production ready signals that the workflow is stable and safe for others to run. The status has the following effects:

• The workflow appears as a selectable tool in the AI Agent activity. Only production-ready workflows appear in the Specific workflows to include list.

Because other consumers can depend on a production-ready workflow, changing its status or contents can affect live operations.

Edit a production-ready workflow safely

A production-ready workflow is locked, so editing requires a deliberate step. Choose one of the following approaches:

• Unlock the workflow to edit it. Unlocking clears the production-ready status, and other consumers stop seeing the workflow until it is marked production ready again.

• Duplicate the workflow and edit the copy. Editing a copy avoids any impact on the workflows, automation rules, and agents that use the original.

• The platform shows a warning before editing a production-ready workflow, because other users, the AI Assistant, automation rules, and parent workflows may actively use it.
