Control Mode of Unified Suites
Overview
Cisco Networking Wireless and Switching Suites acquired through an Enterprise Agreement (EA) provide flexibility to manage licenses either through the Meraki Dashboard or Cisco Smart Software Manager (CSSM). Your choice of control location applies to all Dashboard eligible suites and determines:
- Where to acquire additional unified licenses
- Available management modes for your devices
- How license consumption is tracked
License Management Options
Meraki Dashboard Control:
- Device Management: Cloud, On Prem, Hybrid
- Device & License Visibility: Available in both Meraki Dashboard and CSSM
- Access to Additional Licenses: Meraki Dashboard
- Consumption Utilization: Metered based on number of devices assigned to Networks in Dashboard
CSSM Control:
- Device Management: On-Prem Only
- Device & License Visibility: Available in CSSM only
- Access to additional licenses: Through EA Workspace
- Consumption Utilization: Metered based on downloaded licenses
Default Suite Control
The default license control is determined by the presence of other Meraki Suites (Meraki Network Infrastructure, Meraki Camera Systems, Meraki Systems Manager):
Are Meraki Suites Included in the EA |
Default Control |
Yes |
Meraki Dashboard |
No |
CSSM (if no Org IDs included in the proposal) |
Note: If your default control is Meraki Dashboard, it may take 1-3 US business days after the EA start date for the user interface to appear in the dashboard.
Moving Suite Control From CSSM To Meraki Dashboard
To migrate your Suite control from CSSM control to the Meraki Dashboard, follow these steps in EA Workspace:
- Navigate to https://software.cisco.com/
- Navigate to EA Workspace section.
3. Locate and click on your EA Subscription
4. Click on the Action Drop Down next to your Cisco Networking Wireless Suite and select “Migrate to Meraki Dashboard”
5. Proceed through the confirmation pop-up.
Note that during the migration process your ability to download additional Cisco Wireless licenses will be paused.
6. Claim your Unified Hardware in the Meraki Dashboard by following the detailed steps found here. After claiming, add the devices to a Network using the instructions here. You can configure the Network's management mode (On-Prem vs Cloud) by following the steps found here. Please note that all Unified Hardware must be claimed into the Dashboard before the Suite control can be switched from CSSM to Dashboard, as Suites currently do not support mixed control modes.
7. Contact Meraki Support, to request toggling Suite control from CSSM to Dashboard.
