Role-Based Access Control Wireless Beta Program

Introduction

Welcome to the RBAC Wireless Admin Beta Program! This article serves as a comprehensive guide for participants who are helping to test and refine the Wireless Admin scope within the Meraki Dashboard. Below you will find detailed information about the program, how to navigate the new features, and where to seek support or provide feedback.

The Program is designed to validate the functionality of the new backend framework that supports custom role creation within the Meraki Dashboard. This beta program focuses specifically on the Wireless Admin scope, allowing participants to test access controls at both the network and organization levels.

Getting Started

Accessing the Wireless Admin Scope

Upon being selected for the beta program, your account will be granted the Wireless Admin scope by the engineering team. To access your new permissions:

  • Log in to the Meraki Dashboard.
  • In the left navigation, select 'Organization'.
  • Select 'Administrators' from the side menu.
  • You should see the Wireless Admin role assigned to your account.
Exploring the Wireless Admin Features

As a Wireless Admin, you will have access to the following areas:

  • Wireless network configuration and management.
  • SSID settings and access control.
  • RF profiles and traffic shaping.
  • Wireless health and client insights.

Providing Feedback

Your insights are invaluable to us, and we want to make sure your voice is heard. Here's how you can provide feedback:

  • Surveys: The RBAC Research team will send out surveys at two key points during the program to gather structured feedback on your experience.
  • Informal Notes: You are encouraged to share screenshots and descriptions of features that stand out to you, whether positively or negatively. To format these submissions, please include:
    • A screenshot of the page(s) you are viewing.
    • A description of the task you are attempting to accomplish.
    • Any challenges, frustrations, likes, or dislikes you encounter.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Issue: Inability to Access Certain Wireless Settings

Ensure that you are logged in with the account that has been granted the Wireless Admin scope.
If the issue persists, contact
meraki-rbac-beta@cisco.com for assistance.

Issue: Changes Not Taking Effect

Verify that you have saved your configurations after making changes.
If the problem continues, document the steps taken and report the issue to
meraki-rbac-beta@cisco.com.

 

Program Process

The beta program will run for 2 months starting July 15, 2024, with specific dates for feedback surveys and support check-ins communicated to participants via email.

In the event that a participant wishes to revert to their previous privileges and opt out of the beta program, the following process will be followed:
Participants or their account teams should communicate their request to roll back the functionality to the Product Management team at meraki-rbac-beta@cisco.com

Participants can leave the program at any time by contacting the product management team by submitting a rollback request to meraki-rbac-beta@cisco.com. Upon request, rollback to previous privileges will be initiated with the SLA of 1 business day.

Participants who do not exit will retain Wireless access after the program ends.
