Overview
Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) monitors physical and operational parameters of fiber optic transceivers in real time. Cisco Meraki MS switches and Catalyst switches display DOM metrics for transmit power, receive power, temperature, laser bias current, and voltage in the Meraki dashboard.
Prerequisites
Before you use DOM, review the following requirements and limitations.
Requirements and limitations
- DOM is supported on these MS switch models: MS120, MS125, MS130, MS150, MS210, MS225, MS250, MS350, MS355, MS410, and MS425. This also includes all Catalyst switch models running Cisco IOS XE 17.18.1+.
- Cisco Meraki uses Small Form Factor (SFF) Specifications open standards, however, only the accuracy of Cisco Meraki SFPs are guaranteed. Refer to the accessory policy here.
- DOM is currently not supported on QSFP transceivers.
Step-by-step instructions
Use the following steps to view DOM metrics and historical data in the Meraki dashboard under the Ports tab.
View DOM metrics

Navigate to Switching > Monitor > Switches to view the list of switches on the network.

Select a switch to open its page.

Select the Ports tab.

Select the operational fiber optic SFP port in the switch panel.

Scroll down to the Status section to view the DOM metrics and alerts.

View historical data in the chart Form

Select the parameters you want to analyze from the drop-down selector.

Select the parameters to generate the data chart.

Hover over the chart to view a tooltip with the median, maximum, and minimum values for that day, and the threshold values from the SFP module.

To adjust the time frame, select the time range option next to the Historical data section.
Configuration
DOM configuration works as follows:

Upgrading to MS 17 or later firmware, or Cisco IOS XE 17.18.1 or later on Catalyst switches, automatically enables DOM. You cannot disable DOM.

The dashboard collects and displays readings and thresholds after you connect an optical transceiver to the switch.

The dashboard polls for SFP telemetry every 5 minutes.
Thresholds
Each monitored attribute (transmit power, receive power, temperature, voltage, and laser bias current) has four threshold levels, described in the follwoing table:

Different modules are designed for different distances, which means they operate at different power levels. Check your module datasheet for references to specific threshold values used by your model of module.

DOM readings and thresholds can be accessed via the API by using the endpoint /organizations/organizationID/switch/ports/transceivers/readings/history/bySwitch
