AI Optimizations

AI Notice

At Cisco, we appreciate that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be leveraged to power an inclusive future for all. We also recognize that by applying this technology, we have a responsibility to mitigate potential harm. That is why Cisco adheres to our Responsible AI Framework (the “Framework”), which is based on six principles of Transparency, Fairness, Accountability, Privacy, Security and Reliability. Cisco translates these principles into product development requirements which ultimately form part of the product development lifecycle alongside our Security by Design, Privacy by Design, and Human Rights by Design processes.

Overview

The goal of AI Optimizations is to provide customized AI generated configuration recommendations and admin insights to the network admins in order to simplify network operations, improve the user experience and make the network configurations compliant to the industry best practices. Every network is unique and tuning a network to optimal operating conditions can be a task that requires advanced skills and sometimes mistakes can result in big impact on the end-users of the network. AI Optimizations will learn about your network and generate recommendations and insights tailored to your network to guarantee the best possible experience for the users on your network.

The list of recommended optimizations will show the category they fall under, performance or security based. They will also show the number of networks impacted and the time detected.

Requirements

AI Optimization requires the network to have Advanced licensing.

Access the Optimization

  • Via the left-hand menu go to Assurance > Alerts

  • Select the Optimizations tab
    • The list of recommended optimizations will show the category they fall under, performance or security based, the number of networks impacted and the time detected.

Optimizations

Each optimization will have three important sections:

  • Suggested Action – What needs to be changed to accept the optimization
  • Details – Specific details pertinent to the optimization including impact predictions
  • Benefits – General benefits of the optimization

Fast Roaming (802.11r)

In the offered optimization, the benefits of enabling 802.11r on the specified SSID. The predicted impact of enabling the recommended optimization is shown with the “before and after” graph, which is based on either:

  • The roaming latency for an SSID that has 11r enabled SSID in the same network.
  • The roaming latency for and SSID that has 11r enabled in the same organization.
  •  If neither the network nor organization have 11r enabled, the prediction is based on a global Meraki-wide average for enabling the feature. This prediction can be viewed for each individual SSID for which it is recommended.

The client readiness bar shows the total count of each device type on the SSID, along with how many of each type support 802.11r.

Flexible Radio Assignment (FRA)

There are two settings that this optimization will need to be enabled to work:

  1. Enable AI-RRM
  2. Enable Flexible Radio Assignment

AI-RRM must be enabled for the AI to be able to control the FRA radios.

WPA3

We read the capabilities that are advertised by the clients to determine if they support WPA3.

This optimization is based on the percentage of clients that support WPA3. We require 95% compliance before we make this recommendation

6 GHz

For 6 GHz optimization, we read the capabilities that are advertised by the clients to determine if they support utilizing the 6 GHz band.

What channels are allowed is still defined by the regulatory domain of the country. This recommendation does not mean that the full 1200 Mbps of spectrum are available.
