Meraki Go - Layer 3 Firewall Rules

Overview

Firewall rules are an instrumental tool for controlling what network traffic is allowed through the GX security gateway. The most common types of network traffic protocols are TCP (transmission control protocol) and UDP (user datagram protocol).

By default, a GX security gateway behaves in this manner:

  • Devices, computers, or mobile phones on the LAN (local area network) are allowed to make any outbound connections to the Internet or other VLANs/networks.
  • No devices on the Internet can contact devices on the LAN without a defined port forwarding rule.

The Layer 3 Firewall Rules feautre allows for modification of this default behavior.
