Introduction to Rapid Review
Overview and Purpose
Rapid Review is an advanced playback feature within the Cisco Meraki Vision portal designed to accelerate video investigations. By providing flexible, high-speed playback options, it allows security teams to quickly scan historical footage, identify key events, and significantly streamline incident response times.
This feature supports playback speeds of up to 16x for historical video. To ensure optimal performance without compromising network stability, Rapid Review intelligently utilizes lower-resolution streams, effectively maximizing bandwidth efficiency while maintaining the visual context necessary for rapid identification.
Main functionalities you will interact with:
- High-speed playback: Scan historical footage at speeds up to 16x to quickly locate events of interest.
- Bandwidth-optimized streaming: Leverages lower-resolution footage to ensure smooth playback performance across your network.
- Enhanced investigation workflows: Reduces the time required to review long durations of video, facilitating faster incident resolution.
- Seamless integration: Accessible directly within the Meraki Vision portal interface.
Prerequisites
Hardware Requirements
- Camera Models: 2nd or 3rd generation Cisco MV Smart Cameras.
- Firmware Version: MV Firmware 7.2 or later.
Software Requirements
- Portal Access: Access to the Meraki Vision portal v1.27.0 and later.
- To check your Vision Portal Version, select Whats New.

Note: Rapid Review is available for footage that is about 5 minutes behind real-time and beyond starting from the time the camera was upgraded to 7.2 firmware.

How to use Rapid Review
| Use Case | Description | Benefit |
| Incident Investigation | Reviewing several hours of footage to pinpoint the exact time an event occurred, such as a security breach or a misplaced item. | Drastically reduces the time spent scrubbing through footage, allowing for faster incident resolution. |
| Daily Security Audits | Quickly scanning high-traffic areas at the start or end of a shift to verify operational compliance or check for unauthorized access. | Provides comprehensive oversight of daily activities without requiring a significant time investment from security staff. |
| Monitoring Activity Patterns | Observing movement trends in a specific zone over an extended duration to identify recurring loitering or unusual behavior. | Enables proactive identification of suspicious activity while maintaining network performance through bandwidth-optimized streaming. |
Step-by Step Instructions
- Select a Camera:
- Click on the specific camera you wish to investigate from the camera list.
- Access Historical Footage:
- Locate the timeline at the bottom of the video player and navigate to the desired date and time range.
- Enable Rapid Review:
- Pressing the fast forward or fast reverse buttons will move between different playback speeds.
- Pressing fast forward/fast backward while in the other mode will change the direction of playback.
- Pressing the Play button will return to standard playback mode and resume playback at 1x speed.

- Adjust Playback Speed:
- Once enabled, use the playback speed selector (e.g., 2x, 4x, 8x, or 16x) to scan through the footage at your preferred pace.
- Identify Events:
- Monitor the video stream for activity. The player will automatically utilize lower-resolution streams to maintain performance at higher speeds.
- Return to Standard Playback:
- Once you have identified an event of interest, you can return to "1x" playback speed by selecting play to return to standard, high-resolution viewing for detailed investigation.
Video can be scrubbed by clicking and dragging the timeline both forward and backward, once the timeline is released, press the Play button to return to standard playback mode.
