Power Settings

Overview

Power settings page for Wireless contains all of the settings related to how the access point (AP) consumes power.  You can configure how the AP should behave when it is operating in degraded PoE mode by selecting one of the preset profiles.

Use Case

In PoE negotiation, the AP would request a certain power budget from the switch that is supplying PoE power.  If the switch is able to meet the request of the AP, the AP will proceed to enable all of its functionality and assume normal operation.  However, if the switch cannot meet the power budget requested by the AP, the AP will turn off certain functions in order to operate within the power budget that is offered by the switch, this is known as degraded PoE mode.

Degraded PoE profiles let users set power-saving options when the AP is operating in degraded PoE mode. Users can apply one profile to all devices of the same model in a network. Each profile is based on device model power constraints. Supported models are CW9178I, CW9176I, and CW9176D1.

Configuration

  • Degraded PoE Profiles can be accessed via Wireless > Configure > Power Settings

  • All networks will have default profiles set for all models initially. Customers have the option to select a different profile depending on their degraded PoE needs and preferred interfaces.

  • Each tab represents an applicable device model present in the current wireless network. Current options are CW9178I, CW9176I, and CW9176D1.  Settings will not be available until a compatible device is added to the network.
