How to Reset Passwords for Network Users

Introduction

This article explains how to reset passwords for network users in the Cisco Meraki dashboard. Network user passwords can be reset either by a dashboard administrator or by the end user using the password reset option.

Prerequisites

For dashboard administrator password reset:

  • Access to the dashboard with a Network Administrator role.

For end-user password reset:

  • Access to the email address associated with the network user account.

Step-by-step instructions

Resetting a network user password as a dashboard administrator:

  1. Log in to the dashboard.

  1. Navigate to Network-wide Configure > Users.

  1. Use the search box to find the user.

  1. Select the user whose password needs to be reset.

  1. In the Edit user dialog box, select Change next to Password.

  1. Enter the new password for the user.

  1. Select Save changes in the Edit user dialog box.

Resetting a network user password as an end user:

This method only works for Guest accounts (Client VPN and Splash Sign-on with Meraki Cloud). Meraki 802.1X accounts (Enterprise with Meraki Cloud Authentication) cannot have their passwords reset using this method.

  1. Navigate to the Cisco Meraki guest account login page

  2. Select 'I forgot my password'.

  3. Enter the email address associated with the network user account.

  4. If the account exists, a password reset email is sent to the registered email address.

  5. Open the email and follow the instructions to ‘Reset the password’

Verification

Verify that the network user can successfully sign in using the updated password.
