Troubleshooting Device Showing Incorrect Public IP Address
Overview
Cisco Meraki devices display their public IP address on the device status page. You can find the device status page for WAN appliances by navigating to Security & SD-WAN > Monitor > Appliance Status in the Meraki dashboard. For access points, navigate to Wireless > Monitor > Access Points, then click a specific device. For switches, navigate to Switching > Monitor > Switches, then click a specific device.
The public IP address displayed may occasionally appear incorrect. This occurs when the public IP of a device has changed but the displayed data has not yet updated. The public IP is updated less frequently than other device information, which can result in stale data.

Troubleshooting incorrect public IP address issue
This behavior is commonly seen when uplink preferences are used on an upstream MX WAN appliance, or when a dynamic IP from an Internet Service Provider (ISP) changes. Although the device maintains a connection to the cloud, the dashboard may still display the previous IP address
Possible causes
- Uplink preferences are configured on an upstream MX WAN appliance.
- A dynamic IP from an ISP changes.
Troubleshooting steps
The displayed public IP will resolve on its own over time. To update the reported public IP immediately, restart the device.
Expected outcome
After restarting the device, the dashboard updates the reported public IP to the current value.
