Viewing Old Event Logs

By Kamal Haidar

Dashboard can maintain device event logs for up to 3 months and client event logs for up to 12 months. These can be viewed for historical purposes unless Network-Wide > Configure > General > Client privacy has been configured for a shorter timeframe. The Client Privacy feature is only available for organizations hosted in the Europe region of Meraki Cloud.

Our recommended best practice for those who require long-term historical logs is to implement a syslog server.

To view historical event logs:

  1. Navigate to Network-wide > Monitor > Event log.
  2. Click in the Before field and specify a date and time.

  3. Once the date and time have been selected, click the Search button to begin the search. This will display client and device event logs:

  4. Attempting to run a general search to view event logs older than 3 months will result in a "No matching events found message"

  5. The client field will need to be populated to view client logs that date back up to 12 months

You cannot download more than 1000 events at a time (when using the export function).

Note: Event logs are tied to the Dashboard network, as such, swapping devices will not affect the event log, but moving devices to a new network will cause their device logs to be cleared.
