AI Assistant for Networking - Public Beta
Overview
The Cisco AI Assistant is a proprietary conversational AI interface designed to help optimize network management, automate routine tasks, and promote proactive troubleshooting. Through AI-powered responses, recommendations, and insights – the AI assistant helps streamline network operations.
With its troubleshooting capabilities, the AI Assistant helps assist admins and engineers with identifying and resolving network issues, and contributes to minimal downtime and enhanced performance.
How can I access this Beta?
We're doing a gradual rollout starting with the Americas:
Opt-in to the waitlist via the Early Access Page → Gradual Onboarding with Notification → AI Widget Appears in the Dashboard.
The Public beta waitlist will be available by accessing the Meraki Dashboard via Early Access. Access to the AI Assistant will roll out gradually; users will be notified directly within the Dashboard once the feature becomes available in their organization. Once enabled, navigate to the top right corner of the Meraki Dashboard and click on the AI Widget to access the feature .
What to expect:
This is a beta release. You may encounter incomplete answers or unexpected answers to some questions. We value your feedback to improve the AI Assistant before GA.
Network-only admins in Dashboard will experience the same level of permissions as they do in Dashboard.
How can the AI Assistant Help You?
The AI Assistant provides IT teams with a tool designed to help lighten the management workload, enhance productivity, and improve the end-user networking experience. Simply have a conversation with the AI Assistant and ask, "What can you help me with?" to explore its capabilities.
Primary Use Cases for AI Assistant
The AI Assistant will help address four critical use cases:
Assurance
What It Does:
Gain deeper visibility into network health and user experience quality. AI Assistant helps identify performance trends, detect anomalies, and check service levels across your environment.
Examples You Can Try:
- How was the status of my organization in the past 24 hours?
- How is my network doing?
- Give me a list of networks with a poor score for the past 2 weeks.
Monitoring
What It Does:
Stay informed with real-time insights into network activity and performance. AI Assistant highlights actionable events and metrics to support proactive network management.
Examples You Can Try:
- What’s changed since I last logged in?
- Show me WAN port usage.
- How is my Wi-Fi doing?
Troubleshooting
What It Does:
Help accelerate issue resolution with data-driven guidance. AI Assistant helps simplify root cause analysis and includes proposed next steps to help minimize downtime and reduce operational overhead.
Examples You Can Try:
- How can I troubleshoot the alert "DHCP no leases”?
- Troubleshoot client ‘John’s iPhone’ with MAC ‘00:11:22:33:44:55’.
- Troubleshoot interface down on device X.
Network Maintenance
What It Does:
Help streamline routine operations such as software updates, configuration reviews, and system checks. AI Assistant provides proactive suggestions to help enhance network reliability and stability.
Examples You Can Try:
- Have any devices had a configuration change today?
- Show me the most utilized APs.
- What are the group policies currently configured?
- Workflows prompts directly from the AI Assistant.
Detailed Network-level Assistance
Client Insights & Network Usage
The AI Assistant can provide detailed insights about network clients, their activity, and connection health. Examples you can try:
- Give me a list of clients that failed on-boarding in my network.
- Can you show me the total utilization of the WAN uplinks for the last 3 days?
Network Policies & Group Policy Management
The AI Assistant can help you understand and manage group policies, client policies, and network-wide policy configurations. Examples you can try:
- What are the group policies that I have?
- List the access policies for the switch network.
- What is the access policy with number "X"?
Security Appliance & Firewall
The AI Assistant can help you manage and troubleshoot security appliances, firewall rules, VPN configurations, and network security events. Examples you can try:
- Tell me about my L3 firewall rules on my appliance?
- Why is my port forwarding not working?
- Are there any traffic shaping rules applied on my appliance?
Wireless
The AI Assistant can help you monitor and troubleshoot wireless networks, SSIDs, access points, and security settings. Examples you can try:
- Which APs has client [MAC/Name] connected to in the past X hours?
- Show me all the association failures for this client mac.
- Which AP currently has the most clients?
Switching
The AI Assistant can help you monitor and troubleshoot switches by providing insights into port status, VLANs, QoS, routing, and access policies. Examples you can try:
- What is my stp root bridge/switch for this network?
- List link aggregation groups.
- List the layer 3 interfaces for the switch stack.
Documentation Summarization
Get summaries from Cisco Meraki documentation. AI Assistant helps you understand feature behavior, apply best practices, and follow recommended troubleshooting workflows from Cisco Meraki documentation without manual searching. Examples you can try:
- How do I fix a "bad internet connection" alert?
- How do I access the local status page?
- How many VPN tunnels can the MX85 support?
API Guidance
Helps more easily find and understand relevant Cisco Meraki API documentation. AI Assistant helps surface API calls and implementation tips to help you automate and extend network functionality. Examples you can try:
- How do I retrieve network IDs using the API?
- How to upgrade my networks using API?
Workflows
Cisco Workflows is low-code or no-code approach solution designed to help IT teams streamline daily operations while reducing the complexity of network management. Examples you can try:
- I would like to configure a Wireless Meraki network using 802.1x with radius. Use Cisco Identity Server for Authentication and Authorization.
- I want to replace switch 'SW_02-XX' in my 'NY01' network with a new switch currently not assigned to a network. Show me the switches currently available in inventory and I will select the one I want to use for the replacement.
Interacting with the AI Assistant
Entering Queries
- Use clear and specific questions (e.g., "How do I configure a site-to-site VPN?" instead of "VPN not working").
- Start a new thread for each session.
Providing feedback via the AI Assistant
Your feedback is essential in improving the AI Assistant. If you encounter an incorrect or incomplete response, or if you have ideas for new features, please let us know using the thumbs-up or thumbs-down buttons after an interaction.
- If an answer is incorrect, use the thumbs down to provide feedback.
- If the response is helpful, use the thumbs up.

When will AI Assistant be Generally Available?
It will be generally available for all customers in second half of this calendar year on the Meraki Dashboard.
How accurate are the recommendations from AI Assistant?
The AI Assistant is designed to provide suggestions by leveraging pre-trained models tuned for networking-specific tasks, as well as integrating with real-time system data when applicable, as well as drawing from networking industry best practices and product documentation to help generate responses. While the AI Assistant aims to provide grounded information, it is recommended that you validate its suggestions and actions, especially for critical configurations or troubleshooting.
Is my data being used to train the AI Assistant?
No, your data is not used to train the AI Assistant.
Will the AI Assistant require an advanced license?
This information will be provided upon the GA release of the Cisco AI Assistant later this calendar year.
