MV Feature Compatibility

Introduction

Cisco MV cameras utilize onboard processing to perform advanced analytics and image enhancement. Because these features require significant computational resources, some functions are mutually exclusive. This guide outlines the resource management logic and current compatibility constraints to ensure optimal performance across your deployment.

Compatibility Matrix

When configuring your camera settings, please be aware of the following interactions:

  • Enabling High Dynamic Range (HDR)
    • HDR optimizes video quality in challenging lighting conditions. However, when HDR is active, the following analytics, and image quality features will be unavailable
      • Attribute Search
        • This feature requires standard video processing and cannot run simultaneously with HDR.
      • License Plate Recognition (LPR)
        • LPR is a specialized mode that dedicates the camera's processing power to accurately capturing and reading plates.
      • Sensor Crop
  • Enabling License Plate Recognition (LPR)
    • When LPR is enabled on supported models (such as the MV53X) other computer vision features, including Attribute Search are automatically disabled.

Summary of Incompatible Features

The following table identifies known feature conflicts.

Feature (Enabled)

Incompatible Features (Automatically Disabled)

HDR

Attribute Search, Sensor Crop

License Plate Recognition

Attribute Search, HDR

Note: If you enable a feature that is incompatible with an existing setting, the system will provide a notification in the dashboard indicating which features have been suppressed.

Configuration Best Practices

To avoid unexpected behavior when deploying features across your fleet:

  • Define Primary Use Case: Determine the primary function of the camera (e.g., LPR for gate security vs. Attribute Search for retail analytics) before enabling resource-intensive settings.
  • Use Camera Profiles: When managing multiple cameras, use configuration templates to ensure that incompatible features are not inadvertently enabled across your site.
  • Validate After Changes: Always verify the feature is active (or inactive) after enabling a new feature to ensure that your desired secondary features remain active.
  • Firmware Consistency: Ensure all cameras are running the latest firmware.

Troubleshooting

If a feature appears to be unavailable or is disabled unexpectedly:

  1. Check for Conflicts: Review the Compatibility Matrix above to see if an enabled feature is suppressing the one you are trying to use.
  2. Verify Firmware: Ensure the camera is on the latest firmware version.
  3. Support: If no clear conflict exists, document the camera model, the specific firmware version, and the list of enabled analytics before contacting support.
