MV Template Best Practices

Overview

This document explains how to use Network Templates with MV cameras. It covers creating a new network bound to a template and adding MV cameras to existing Dashboard networks linked to a template.

While you can add to MV's to templates, no MV configuration is managed via the templates. If the camera is already installed and you have to move the cameras between networks, MV configurations are not retained for cross-network moves. This includes quality and retention settings as well as wireless settings. As a result, MV cameras using wireless will lose connection to Dashboard.

Appending MV’s to existing templates

This section provides steps to add Cameras to networks that are bound to templates which do not have a Cameras section. In order to add cameras to networks that are already bound to a template, we need to create a new template which includes a Camera section and then merge the cameras section to the old template.

In this example, we have “Home Network” already bound to “Old Template”. These are the steps to be able to add cameras to “Home Network”

  1. Navigate to Organization > Monitor > Configuration Templates and view the list of existing templates in your organization.

  2. Here we will create a new template that supports Cameras section. Click on Create a new template, select Create new, enter a name for your template and click on Add.

  3. This template does not need to be connected to any network. In the modal, click Close and click Save changes on the page.

  4. Verify that the new created template shows Cameras section in the side tab.

  5. Select the checkbox next to the newly created template and click Split. Since the template is named New Template, the split will result in template names followed by product names. Use New Template - camera to add cameras to Old Template.

  6. Combine the Cameras template with the Old Template by selecting the checkbox next to New Template - camera and Old Template click Combine. Choose a name for the combined template, preferably using the original template name.

Add MV's to a new template

This section provides steps to add Cameras to a newly created network bound to a newly created template

In this example, we have “Home Network New” created and bound to “New Template”.

  1. Navigate to Organization > Monitor > Configuration Templates and view the list of existing templates in your organization.

  2. Create a new template that supports the Cameras section by clicking Create a new template, selecting Create new, entering a name for your template, and clicking Add.
