Global Search

Available May '26

Now Including Catalyst Center results with cross-launch

Global Overview Search extends the Cisco Meraki Dashboard global search experience by adding support for Catalyst Center-managed resources. This feature allows administrators to quickly locate infrastructure and client information across both Meraki and Catalyst Center environments from a single, unified search bar, eliminating the need to know which specific Catalyst Center instance manages a particular resource.

How It Works

Administrators can use the global search bar located in the top-right corner of the Meraki Dashboard to search for supported Catalyst Center-managed sites, devices, and clients.

  • Partial Search Support: You do not need to enter a complete name or IP address. The search engine supports partial strings (e.g., entering "dist" may return "Dist-DC.cisco.com" or "Dist-branch.pseudoco.com").
  • Cross-Launching: Once a resource is located, the search result will identify the specific Catalyst Center instance managing that object. Clicking the result will cross-launch you directly into the relevant detailed view within that Catalyst Center instance, such as:
    • Device 360: For deep-dive device troubleshooting.
    • Client 360: For specific client connectivity and health analysis.
    • Network Hierarchy: To view the site design and topology.

Supported Search Criteria

You can search for Catalyst Center-managed resources using the following criteria:

Search Category Examples
Site Site name, Partial site name
Device Device name, Partial device name, Device IP, Device MAC, Serial Number, Software version, Device Family (e.g., Router, Switch), Device Type/Model (e.g., C9200)
Client Client IP address, Client MAC address

Example Workflows

  • Locating a Device: Enter the full or partial device name (e.g., "core") in the global search bar. Select the desired device from the results to cross-launch into its Device 360 page.
  • Locating a Client: Enter the client's IP address or partial IP. Select the client to cross-launch into the Client 360 page.
  • Locating a Site: Enter the site name (e.g., "San Jose"). Selecting the site will take you to the Network Hierarchy view for that site in the corresponding Catalyst Center instance.

Notes and Considerations

  • Permissions: Global Overview Search behavior is governed by your existing Dashboard permissions and the resources available to your user profile.
  • Integration: Search results for Catalyst Center-managed sites, devices, and clients are only available if those resources are properly integrated with the Global Overview feature.
