MV Wireless Configuration Guide

Overview

MV cameras (MV12 [2018] and later) feature a wireless chip that allows them to function as wireless clients. Coupled with the Meraki MV low voltage power injector, MV provides a more affordable alternative to deployments requiring re-cabling that might otherwise be cost-prohibitive. Simply configure wireless settings in the Meraki dashboard, connect the cameras to the LAN for configuration download, and then mount cameras, connected to power, within range of an access point. The wireless functionality on MV works with any brand of wireless access point. The following documentation will outline how to configure wireless profiles for the MV.

Note: Wireless functionality is supported on firmware MV 3.16 and newer.

Creating Wireless Profiles

Follow the steps below to create wireless profiles for Meraki MV cameras.

  1. From the Meraki Dashboard, navigate to Cameras > Monitor > Cameras

  6. Select New Profile. Configure the new profile by choosing the security protocol and filling out the required credentials.
Note: Currently, the only supported WPA2-Enterprise EAP type is TTLS. Certificate based authentication is not supported. Also, the OuterIdentity is automatically set as the cameras wireless MAC address.

  7. Select Submit to save the new wireless profile. The profile will now be available for all Meraki MV within the Dashboard Network.

Note: Under the Wireless section of a specific camera, wireless profiles can be added and edited as well.

Applying Wireless Profiles

Follow the steps below to apply wireless profiles to Meraki MV cameras.

  1. From the Meraki Dashboard, navigate to Cameras > Monitor > Cameras
  2. Select one or more cameras from the list page via its checkbox
  3. Select Edit > Edit wireless settings...

  4. From the wireless profile window, select a Primary and Secondary SSID. A third Backup SSID is optional.
Note: Two SSID profiles must be selected here. It is not possible to apply only a primary profile. Multiple SSID profiles allows for potential failover scenarios. The Meraki MV will prefer the Primary SSID and automatically failover to the Secondary followed by the Backup SSID.
