Gen3 Meraki MV Mounting Options and Guidelines
This document outlines our current MV mount offerings with guidelines and best practices. Specific dimensions for the hardware are attached to this article.
How MV Mounting Works
-
Every Gen3 MV comes with 2x mounting base plates (a small mounting plate and a large mounting plate) inside the box, which can go directly onto a flat surface like a wall, ceiling or junction box.
-
Optional universal mounting accessories are also available for the Gen3 MV cameras. (Datasheets on the Cisco Meraki website)
-
You would use this for the following reasons:
-
If mounting directly on a flat surface is not possible.
-
Mounting directly on the surface does not provide the best field of view.
-
Another reason you would use an arm is to isolate the camera from water droplets that might obstruct the lens when mounted flush to the wall.
-
Summary of Mounting Options
MV cameras are compatible with the following mounting options, as well as the MV Low Voltage Power Adapter (LVPA). The specific dimensions for these accessories are attached to this article. There is also a flowchart that illustrates all the different mounting options.
Mounting Guidelines
-
Finalise your camera placement and determine what accessories you need based on the table above.
-
Remember that you must first set up the camera using a wired connection before using wireless.
-
If we need to connect the conduit to the camera, we have a conduit adapter in the box for the MV63 and MV93 Series.
Specific Recommendations
A complete set of drawings for all the mount plates and mounts are available in this article. Ordering information and other technical specifications are on the Cisco Meraki website.
Mounting Orientation Setting for Fisheye Cameras
Fisheye cameras are best mounted on the ceiling to maximise the 360-degree view with the dewarp capability. However, a fisheye camera might sometimes be mounted vertically on a wall. In this case, the dewarp capability does not provide the best zoom experience.
You can use the "Mounting" setting on the "Video settings tab" to indicate whether your fisheye is mounted on the wall or a ceiling. This will affect the zoom behaviour of this camera on both the Meraki Dashboard and the Meraki Vision portal. Fisheyes with "Ceiling" configured will have dewarp, and DPTZ as before, but fisheyes with "Wall" configured will simply zoom in and out like for other MV cameras.
Wall Mounting
Some things to consider when thinking about the electrical wiring on a wall:
-
The simplest way to the wall mount is to have the Ethernet cable through the wall.
-
If this is not possible, determine if you can run a conduit to the camera.
-
If not, you cannot protect your electrical wiring (this may be fine if installed indoors).
