Cisco Meraki Documentation

Cisco Meraki China Region

Overview

The Cisco Meraki China Region provides a dedicated, locally hosted instance of the Meraki Dashboard and cloud services for organizations operating within mainland China. This region was launched to address local data-residency requirements, improve service stability for in-country deployments, and comply with relevant Chinese laws and regulations.

Prior to the launch of the China Region in 2018, Meraki devices deployed in mainland China connected to global Meraki services hosted outside the country. These cross-border data connections can be unstable and are subject to Chinese regulatory controls. To ensure the best performance and compliance posture, customers with Meraki hardware deployed within mainland China are strongly encouraged to host their organizations in the China Region.

This page provides details on dashboard access, supported products, feature availability, and key considerations around cross-border connectivity and regulatory requirements.

Dashboard and API Access

Service URL Description
Dashboard Login https://dashboard.meraki.cn Access and manage organizations hosted in the China Region.

Note:
The China Region Dashboard is separate and isolated from other Meraki regions. Organizations hosted in China can only be accessed at dashboard.meraki.cn, and Chinese-region accounts do not interoperate with Meraki Global accounts.

Data Centers and Redundancy

The Cisco Meraki China Region operates exclusively within mainland China and is supported by multiple in-country data centers to comply with data-localization laws and ensure service stability. Either data center may act as primary or secondary depending on server allocation and operational needs.

Unsupported and Limited Features in the China Region

Due to local regulatory requirements and technical constraints, the following features are not supported or have limitations for devices configured in the Cisco Meraki China Region:

  • HTTP proxy for cloud communication
Devices cannot use an HTTP proxy when communicating with the Meraki Cloud.

  • Configuration fetch over HTTP
Devices must use HTTPS to retrieve configuration updates; HTTP-based configuration fetch is not supported.

  • MX Advanced Security License – Feature Limitations
The following security services are not available on the China Dashboard:

    • Advanced Malware Protection (AMP)

Content filtering is supported in both Top Sites mode and Full List mode, similar to other regions. However, when using Full List mode, the MX must query a cloud-hosted database located outside of China, which may introduce additional latency of several seconds.

For more specific information and limitations related to China region, please refer Information for Users in China.

Note:
Feature availability and limitations in the China Region are subject to change based on evolving regulatory requirements and service capabilities. Customers should review the latest documentation for the most up-to-date information.

Migrating Existing Devices, Networks, or Organizations to the China Region

To move an existing organization to the Meraki China Region, you must first create a new organization in the China Region and then manually move all devices into the new organization.

All configuration settings will need to be recreated manually, as configurations cannot be transferred across regions. To transfer existing licenses between organizations, please contact Meraki Support by opening a support case.

Note:
Due to regulatory and data-isolation requirements, organizations and data cannot be automatically migrated between the global Meraki cloud and the China Region.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. If I have organizations and networks in other regions, can I manage them together with organizations in the China Region on the same dashboard?

No. The China Region operates as a separate and isolated Meraki cloud. Organizations and networks hosted in the China Region must be managed exclusively through the China Dashboard at https://dashboard.meraki.cn. Organizations hosted in other regions (such as Commercial, Canada, Europe or India) must be managed through their respective regional dashboards.

2. Are standard Meraki admin accounts shared with China Region admin accounts? Can I manage China and non-China organizations with the same login?

No. Admin accounts created in the China Region are completely separate from accounts in other Meraki regions.
Account credentials, organization membership, and permissions do not cross regions.

Additionally, Global Overview and MSP Portal views are supported only for organizations within the China Region and do not provide visibility across multiple Meraki regions.
