Meraki Go - High Interference on Channel

What is high interference and how to avoid it on Meraki Go.

Overview

interference_message.png

Interference is non-wireless electrical noise in the environment. The 2.4Ghz band, while having great range and coverage, suffers the most from environmental interference. For example, a microwave used in close proximity to a GR10 may cause this alert to happen due to the microwave emitting energy on the 2.4Ghz radio band.

What it means for users is poor performance. Client devices will have to re-send data frequently, and streaming quality as well as file downloads will degrade in performance.

How to Troubleshoot

When high interference is detected, there are two solutions to the problem:

  1. Switch the radios to another channel.
  2. Remove the source of the interference.

Option 1 is the easiest path. While option 2 leaves multiple possibilities and potential resolutions.
