Cloud-managed Switching Quick Start
Quick-Start
Start With These Four Steps
For new Meraki users, please also read how to get started in the Meraki dashboard before proceeding the below steps.
Step 1: Unpack, install and connect your switch to the internet. Unpack and mount your switch (desktop or rack mount) and power it on. Plug any one of the Ethernet or fiber ports into an upstream device on your LAN. The uplink port should have access to a DHCP server and it will also need to be able to communicate with the internet. Pro tip: If you are refreshing an existing Meraki switch, consider leveraging the smart LED indicators to help guide remote installer cabling. |
Step 2: Download the latest software. After powering on, your switch will connect to the Meraki Dashboard and download the latest software. While upgrading, the switch's power LED will flash green/white 1. Once the switch has connected to the dashboard, the LED will turn green/white 1. A solid orange light indicates that the device has not checked in with the dashboard yet. Note: You can configure your switches to defer this software upgrade to a scheduled maintenance window. For more details on the configuration, see here. |
Step 3: Claim your device and license. Pro tip: this step can be done before or after receiving the physical devices from Cisco Meraki. Log in to http://dashboard.meraki.com (For any devices that are used in mainland China, please visit http://dashboard.meraki.cn and create a new network. If you do not yet have a dashboard account, choose "Create an Account". Type in the Cloud ID of your switch (found on the back of the unit 2) or simply enter your order number. This will create a new switch network. Alternatively, use your phone to scan and onboard your devices with the Meraki mobile app (iOS) (Android). |
Step 4: Make desired configuration changes. Make your desired configuration changes under the Switch > Configure section of the dashboard. |
Footnotes: 1. For specific LED indicator behaviors, please refer to the product installation guide. 2. For C9000-M switches, you can locate the device Cloud ID from your order shipment email attachment, packing box, and label at the top of the device.
